With self-quarantine in effect for the forseeable future, streaming life has become commonplace on a worldwide level. With so much content to devour, checking out past hits is my version of comfort food. I’ve never seen the iconic shows My Favorite Martian or The Rifleman, but thankfully FilmRise is making those programs free to stream.
My Favorite Martian centers on a Martian (Ray Walston) who gets stranded in Los Angeles and is ultimately rescued by a newspaper reporter named Tim O’Hara (Bill Bixby). Walston had a distinguished career in both film and television (he won two Emmys for his work in Picket Fences) and Bixby also headlined the successful shows The Courtship of Eddie’s Father and The Incredible Hulk (Joe Harnell’s “The Lonely Man” theme still haunts me!)
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The one series I’ll definitely be checking out is The Rifleman, a series that centers on Wild West rancher Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors), an intimidating figure who brandished a custom rapid-fire Winchester rifle. On a recent episode of CinemAddicts, I talked about my love for director Joseph H. Lewis (My Name Is Julia Ross, So Dark The Night, Gun Crazy), and Lewis directed 58 episodes of the series! Connors had a successful (and prolific) film and television career, but he was best known for The Rifleman.
Other nostalgic television shows that are being offered free (with ads) via FilmRise include: Batman (1966), Robotech, 3rd Rock from the Sun, 21 Jump Street, The Greatest American Hero, Grace Under Fire, and Cybill. FilmRise’s content can be streamed on The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Tubi, IMDb TV, Crackle, Vudu, Sling, Stirr, Samsung TV Plus, Stirr, Xubo, and many other more platforms.
Have you seen My Favorite Martian, The Rifleman or any of the aforementioned shows? Also if you’re a documentary fan, the excellent documentary The Dog Doc was also relased by FilmRise. Feel free to comment and share your thoughts!
