Filmmaker Evan Oppenheimer’s (“A Little Game”) new movie “Peas and Carrots” makes its world premiere tonight at Dances With Films. One gripe I have about the glut of cinematic and television content in streamers is a lack of visual style. You won’t find that problem with “Hippo,” a midnight movie family drama/thriller that is one of my favorite films of the year. Director Mark H. Rapaport talks about his production company Kinematics, his debut feature “Hippo,” and why he is passionate about the moving image.
Kathryn Benardo and Alden Richards - Hello, Love, Again
“Hello, Love Again,”the sequel to 2019’s “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” continues the journey of soulmates Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) and Ethan (Alden Richards). “Goodbye’s” Hong Kong location has now been replaced with Calgary, as viewers are updated on the trials and tribulations of their relationship. Bernardo and Richards talk to Deepest Dream about their latest film, working together as actors, and how they are “grateful” for the love and support for “Hello, Love, Again.”
Armor - Josh Wiggins (photos courtesy of Lionsgate)
If you are trapped in an armored car in the South come September, then you are bound to sweat. Chock it up to the glory of making movies, and actor Josh Wiggins talked to Deepest Dream about the joys cand challenges of making “Armor.” The first rate ensemble includes Jason Patric, Sylvester Stallone, and Dash Mihok. If you are looking for a straight ahead action thriller with A-level actors, “Armor” should do the trick! Check out my interview with Wiggins below!
Directed, written, and produced by Kelsey Egan, “The Fix” centers on Ella (Grace Van Dien), a model whose life is transformed after taking an all powerful drug at a party. These mutations are one of a kind, and Ella is looking for a “fix” to cure her condition. Egan, who previously directed “Glasshouse,” talked to Deepest Dream about “The Fix,” screenwriting, and how South Africa shaped her as a filmmaker.
The mythic tale of Odysseus (Ralph Fiennes) has previously been captured in cinema. Kirk Douglas starred as the King in the 1954 feature Ulysses, and now Fiennes takes on the iconic part. Juliette Binoche, his co-star in “The English Patient,” plays Odysseus’ beleaguered wife Penelope.
