If you are looking for a Shark movie that brings a different element to the genre, “Dangerous Animals” could be this week’s movie choice. Directed by Sean Byrne (“The Devil’s Candy”), “Dangerous Animals” delivers on shark scares, tension filled action, and solid storytelling. Hassie Harrison and Josh Heuston chatted with Deepest Dream while they were at the Cannes Film Festival to talk about their new movie.
“The Amateur,” an action thriller starring Rami Malek and Laurence Fishburne, hits 4KUHD and Blu-ray on July 8th via 20th Century Studios. Bonus features and plot summary are featured in the post.
In Celebration of 40th Anniversary, “RAN” has been re-released in theaters via Rialto Pictures. The 4K restoration is currently playing at several theaters across the U.S. including New York’s IFC Center and Laemmle’s Royal in Los Angeles. Other venues include Austin, TX (Austin Film Society), Santa Barbara, Ca. (SBIFF Riviera Theatre), and Charlotte, NC (Independent Picture House).Â

Julia Max directed, wrote, and produced the new feature “The Surrender.” Starring Colby Minifie (“The Boys”) and Kate Burton (“Grey’s Anatomy”), the supernatural horror streams on Shudder starting May 23rd. Having been a fan of several Angel Studios movies (“Cabrini,” “Sound of Freedom”), I was looking forward to seeing “The Last Rodeo.” The great news is I wasn’t disappointed, and it’s great to see a family drama hit theaters this weekend. Starring Neal McDonough (who also serves as a co-writer and producer) and directed by Jon Avnet (“Fried Green Tomatoes,” “Red Corner”), “The Last Rodeo” is worth a watch on several fronts.
Written and directed by Warwick Thornton (“Sweet Country”), “The New Boy” features Cate Blanchett as Sister Eileen, a nun in 1940s Australia who believes an Aboriginal child (Aswan Reid) has special powers. Unfortunately, the boy’s spiritual beliefs does not fit with the mission’s Christianity. CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey reviewed “The New Boy” on this week’s episode.
Keri Pickett and Dawn Mikkelson previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed documentary “Finding Her Beat,” and now they are back together for “Uncle Roy.” The project has already surpassed its $40,000 goal on Kickstarter, but there are stretch goals to be had before the campaign ends Sunday, May 25th. CinemAddicts co-host Eric Holmes is a huge fan of “Finding Her Beat” and Mikkelson’s documentary “Minnnesota Mean,” so he jumped at the chance to interview these filmmakers once again. Eric Aronson has carved out a successful 25-year career in screenwriting. His directing debut “Any Day Now” is a lifelong dream fulfilled. “I worked on a lot of movies and none of it ever felt the final product never really felt like what my voice sounded like to me,” said Aronson, whose previous screenplay credits include ‘Mortdecai’ and ‘On The Line.’ So I saved up for many years and waited a long time to make this movie.” Check out our interview with Aronson as he talks about his creative journey behind “Any Day Now,” a movie that is “based on a true-ish art heist of Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Grace Caroline Currey stars in “A Breed Apart,” as Violet, a social media influencer who travels to an island to meet other influencers. She and her brother Collins (Zak Steiner) enter a competition to capture the island’s man-eating dogs. Unfortunately the tables are turned, and the humans may actually be what’s for dinner! Currey talked to Deepest Dream about why, though she had a fun time, “A Breed Apart” was a “trauma bonding” experience!
