Director Stacey Tenenbaum’s documentary Tough Old Broads makes it final screening Friday morning at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Tenenbaum talked to CinemAddicts host Eric Holmes about her several year journey in making her inspiring project.

“You make a film for audiences,” said Stacey Tenenbaum, who started Tough Old Broads in 2019. “So I’m really excited to see if it inspires people and makes them want to speak out and be active and advocate for change.”
The women spotlighted in Tough Old Broads include marathon runner Kathrine Switzer, Inuit and climate action advocate Siila Watt-Cloutier, and photographer Sharon Farmer.

“I was looking for tough old broads and they fit the bell,” added Tenenbaum. “That would be the simple answer. The more difficult answer is I spent about three years interviewing trailblazing women and ended up with these three incredible ladies.”

Along with its Friday screening at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Tough Old Broads will play in theaters across Canada on March 8 in celebration of International Women’s Day.
