Movie fans are abuzz with the debut trailer for Avengers: Endgame, and though it’s great to see several of “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” attempt to save our world, a little bit of reflection is also welcome. Scarlett Johansson, prominently featured in the aforementioned trailer as Black Widow, was on hand December 8 to host a screening and reception of Black Panther.
The screening took place at New York’s Crosby Hotel, with journalist Lola Ogunnaike serving as the moderator. Along with Black Panther actresses Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira showing up, the event also spotlighted below the line talent with costume designer Ruth E. Carter, production designer Hannah Beachler, and sound mixer Steve Boeddeker. As a former radio journalist and current podcaster, it was also refreshing to see a sound mixer take part in the proceedings!
T’Challa (Chawick Boseman), aka Black Panther, was one of my favorite Avengers members growing up, and having a person of color playing an integral part of the Marvel Universe during the 1970s (when my comic book passions started) was something I’ll always cherish (Sub-Mariner, Blade and Falcon were also childhood favorites). Black Panther, along with Avengers: Infinity War, proved that Marvel Studios continues to reach creative peaks, and I’m eagerly awaiting the Black Widow film.
Was Black Panther one of your top films of 2018 and where does it land in your top Marvel movies list? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts!
