Along with serving as the host of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Nick Cannon has carved out a successful acting, directing, producing and music career to boot. Since we’ve come to expect the unexpected with Cannon, the announcement that he was named Chief Creative Officer of Radio Shack was more of a pleasant surprise than a total shocker.

NBCUniversal Events - Season 2016

Since I previously worked in the radio business for over 15 years and still continue to do my share of interviews, Radio Shack has been my go to spot for batteries and wires for my various recording machines. Whether it was an analog deck, mini-disc or even my current Zoom machine, Radio Shack has never disappointed.

Radio Shack’s attempt to reach a younger, tech savvy audience has taken a step forward with their partnership with Nick Cannon, and while doing the promotional rounds for America’s Got Talent he talked about why Radio Shack has been a perfect fit.

“I have an affinity for the brand, and being someone who grew up (in) a low-income environment and Radio Shack being that neighborhood electronic store where I bought my first microphone, where I bought my first keyboard,” said Cannon. “Others should feel that experience.”

A new season of America’s Got Talent, featuring Cannon, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Mel B and Simon Cowell returns May 31 (NBC).
