Review: Is ‘Cinema Paradiso’ An Italian Cinema Masterpiece Or Overrated Schmaltz?
Cinema Paradiso, won an Oscar for Best Foreign film back in 1990. It’s a film about Salvatore, a disillusioned filmmaker (Jacques Perrin) who travels back to his hometown for the funeral of his dear friend (and film projectionist) Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). With a sweeping Ennio Morricone score, beautiful story, and a sure storytelling hand from director Giuseppe Tornatore, what could go wrong? I have loved this movie since its release, but CinemAddicts hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes found the film too schmaltzy for its own good! Check out their review below!

As of this posting, Civil War has an 80% (critics) and 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. CinemAddicts hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes were both dissatisfied with the feature, giving the movie 2.5/5 stars. Director/writer Alex Garland did not give a clear picture on the political leanings of either side of the Civil War, and this decision was, according to Purkey, “toothless.” They review the film as well as discuss spoilers below!
