There is a good news/bad news element behind the new Netflix feature Pain Hustlers. As Liza Drake, a blue-collar single mom who sees her career skyrocket after teaming up with pharmaceutical sales rep Pete Brenner (Chris Evans), Emily Blunt delivers another first rate perofrmance. CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey described the movie as “entertaining enough,” and I concur with that assessment. Check out our CinemAddicts review below!
The Pain Hustlers ensemble includes Andy Garcia as Liza and Pete’s mega rich and amoral boss and Chloe Coleman as Liza’s loving daughter Phoebe.
Pain Hustlers, like the Netflix series Painkiller, delivers much needed insights into the pharmaceutical industry’s grip on society. Capitalism at its worst is presented in this film, and watching Blunt navigate through this narrative is a highly watchable experience. That said, Pain Hustlers ended up a mildy entertaining but ultimately forgettable experience. Director David Yates does a decent enough job putting the pieces together, but the uninspired and predictable script is the film’s Achilles Heel.
