One show I have high expectations for, especially after watching the pilot, is the freshman thriller/drama Mr. Robot. The series centers on Elliot (an effectively paranoid yet inquisitive Rami Malek), a talented programmer who joins a hacker group (led by Christian Slater) that’s out to take down the firm he’s tasked to protect (he’s a security engineer during the day).
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Along with standout work from Malek and Slater, Mr. Robot also shines in the locations department, as shooting in New York gives the show a refreshingly gritty feel. “I was walking by all these chained up bikes – there were about 40 of them – and some of the tires were taken, the axles were bent. They all looked like they were there for 20 years,” said Malek, whose previous credits include “The Master” and the HBO miniseries “The Pacific.” “That would cost about $100,000 to replicate that, and you get it right there for free.”
In the video below, Malek and Christian Slater talked about the paranoid aspects of “Mr. Robot” (“we just have to be more careful about what we’re putting out there,” adds Malek) :
“Mr. Robot” premieres Wednesday, June 24 on USA Network, however the show’s pilot is also available online.
