Billy Ray is that rare combination of a successful screenwriter (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) who’s also a first rate director (Shattered Glass, Breach). His latest movie is “Secret In Their Eyes,” a topnotch thriller starring Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is a remake of the Oscar winning Argentinean feature “El Secreto De Sus Ojos.” Thankfully, Ray’s version isn’t a step by step regurgitation of the film, as it manages to carve its own singular narrative.
In Secret of their Eyes, Julia Roberts is Jess, an FBI investigator who is understandably obsessed with exacting revenge on her daughter’s killer (Joe Cole). The Los Angeles based story, which is a remake of the Oscar winning feature El Secreto De Sus Ojos, is directed by Billy Ray and co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Nicole Kidman.
Julia Roberts stars in the first rate thriller Secret In Their Eyes, a remake of the Oscar winning film El Secreto De Sus Ojos. In the feature, Roberts is Jess, an FBI investigator who is determined to exact revenge on her daughter’s killer (Joe Cole). Chiwetel Ejiofor co-stars as Jess’ equally determined colleague Ray, and Nicole Kidman is the District Attorney supervisor who aids their quest.
Actor Chiwetel Ejifor (12 Years a Slave, Redbelt) was in Los Angeles to promote his upcoming drama Z for Zachariah, a post apocalyptic drama based on the novel by late writer Robert C. O’Brien. During the interview I asked several questions about the first rate feature, which co-stars Margot Robbie and Chris Pine, and I’ll share these audio clips in the coming days (the movie comes out August 28).
But let’s start off with Ejiofor’s foray into another drama – Secret In Their Eyes.
Opening stateside January 16, Paddington centers on the titular Peruvian bear’s (voiced by Cloud Atlas actor Ben Whishaw) attempts to find a new home in London. Although there are people who are more than happy to give Paddington a new home (Sally Hawkins plays a nurturing matriarch), he also encounters a bit of adversity in the form of Millicent (Nicole Kidman) a taxidermist who’s filled with ill intent.
For Kidman, taking part in Paddington was a delightful experience. “They always say if you have a great time making a movie (it’s) not going to be any good,” said Kidman who was seen last year in the thriller Before I Go To Sleep. “But this movie is good and we had a really good time.”
