Paramount Pictures has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to Anomalisa, a stop motion animated film from directors Charlie Kaufman and Duke JohnsonThe project, featuring Jennifer Jason Leigh and David Thewlis,  is set for a December 30, 2015 release in New York and Los Angeles.

The narrative centers on Michael Stone (Thewlis), a respected author who is paralyzed by the monotony of his life. During a Cincinnati business trip, he meets Lisa (Leigh), an Akron baked good sales rep who may offer him an escape from his mundane existence.

Anomalisa has been a three year labor of love and we are thrilled the film has now found a home at Paramount with people who are passionate about the film and are committed to sharing it with the world,” said directors Kaufman and Johnson with producer Rosa Tran.

Kaufman made his feature directing debut with the critically praised 2008 film Synecdoche, New York.  Anomalisa was honored with the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and recently screed at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“The film is a spectacular achievement of artistry, one that we are incredibly pleased to be a part of,” says Paramount Pictures CEO and Chairman Brad Grey.  “Charlie is a filmmaker of immense vision and craft and he and Duke have created a film that stands alone as one of the year’s best”.
