Parks and Recreations actor Ben Schwartz is one of two new students on the roll call of Night School, the new Universal comedy directed by Malcolm D. Lee.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Schwartz and Fox’s 24 actress Mary Lynn Rajskub are set to join Rob Riggle, Girls Trip’s breakout star Tiffany Haddish, Taran Killam, Yvonne Orji and co-producer Kevin Hart on the set of this big-budget comedy.
Superstar comedian Kevin Hart leads the cast. He is the man responsible for, among many things, what is probably the funniest send up of Casino Royale, the film that rebooted the 007 franchise and introduced a beefed-up Daniel Craig to the world. In addition to sharing producing duties, via his production company Hartbeat Productions, Hart also provided the inspiration for the movie.
Based on a story written by Hart, the film follows a group of miscreants who are forced to go back to night school in the hopes they’ll earn their GED. Schwartz plays Hart’s best friend, an investments advisor who wants to give his pal a job at his company but can’t until he passes his GED exam. Rajskub has been cast as Theresa, a tenacious mom in a busy household who is trying to earn her GED.
Hart isn’t the only Renaissance man enrolled in this movie! Schwartz earned his comedy stripes alongside Kristen Bell and Don Cheadle in House of Lies for five seasons and was at the helm of Funny or Die’s The Earliest Show, which helped him earn an Emmy nomination for outstanding actor in short form comedy or drama series. He has just sold a T.V. series to CBS based on the forthcoming book he co-authored with Laura Moses, Things You Should Already Know About Dating, You F**king Idiot, and is rumored to be signing up for executive production duties as well as penning the script with Moses.
Rajskub is widely known for her recurring role in the hit action-drama show 24 and its spin-off 24: Live Another Day. She starred as Chloe O’Brian, the analyst who is Jack Bauer’s closest ally. In 2016, she appeared in a one-woman show at the Edinburgh Festival, 24 hours with Mary Lynn Rajskub, which went down well with both audiences and critics.
On board for production duties with Hart is Will Packer and his production company Will Packer Productions. The duo collaborates regularly, having produced 5 movies, including the hit comedies Think Like a Man and The Wedding Ringer. The script and screenplay are being adapted from Gary’s story by Harry Ratchford, Joey Wells and Matt Kellard. Principal photography began shooting in Atlanta in early September, and the film is due for release on September 28th 2018.
From what we’ve learned so far about the synopsis of this movie, it’s pretty clear that this isn’t going to be anything groundbreaking, but then again, it’s probably not supposed to be. With its mix of a stellar comedy cast, talented writers and a director powered by an experienced production team, it could well turn out to be worth a watch when it’s released.
