Comedian Jo Koy is, simply put, funny as f**k (if you don’t believe me, check out his take on Asian accents), and for his upcoming Netflix special he is putting the culture of Manila on center stage. Jo Koy: In His Elements has the Filipino-American also spotlighting breakdancer Ronnie, Grammy winning producer !llmind, singer/songwriter Iñigo Pascual and comedians Andrew Lopez, Joey Guila and Andrew Orolfo.

“Every element of this show is Filipino,” said Jo Koy who also comedically boasts, ‘I’ve brought Netflix to the Philippines.’

In fairness, my beloved cousins live in Quezon City and Netflix is an even bigger part of their life due to the pandemic. That said, spotlighting a country that is obviously near and dear to my heart, while also showing viewers the diverse culture of the Philippines is something I’m all about.

It was great to recently witness producer Dean Deviln get his predominantly Filipino series Almost Paradise off the ground, and now seeing Koy continue to put the Philippines on the map is a great thing. Joy Koy: In His Elements premieres globally on Netflix on June 12.
