Movies such as The Others, The Sea Inside, and Open Your Eyes (which was later remade by Cameron Crowe with Vanilla Sky) has showcased the storytelling acumen of filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar, and his latest film Regression hits Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand May 10.

Set amidst a wintry 1990 Minnesota, a detective (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of a young woman (Emma Watson) who claims her father (David Dencik) committed a heinous crime. When the father admits his guilt, a psychologist (David Thewlis) is tasked with uncovering his memories which ultimately leads to a shocking conspiracy that holds horrific repercussions.

Since The Others featured one of the more jaw dropping reveals in cinematic history, it’ll be interesting to see if Regression reaches similar heights. Is this movie a horror film? A cop procedural? Or maybe a little bit of both? I’ve loved all of Amenabar’s movies (including the underrated epic Agora), and I’m looking forward to seeing if Regression is another satisfying chapter in the director’s artistic journey.
