Everbody’s Talking about Jamie, an Amazon Original Movie based on the popular stage musical, features the screen debuts of Max Harwood and Lauren Patel. During our interview, the pair talked about how they easily “got on” while making the feature. Filmmaker Jonathan Butterell also discussed how watching them shine during production was the best part of the experience.

Jamie New (Max Harwood) is a 16-year-old from Sheffield, England with drag queen dreams. With the support of his best friend Pritti (Lauren Patel) a loving mother (Sarah Lancashire), and drag queen named Hugo (Richard E. Grant), Jamie has a ton of confidence to light the way.

Although “everybody’s talking about Jamie,” some of those word are not so kind. A school bully (Samuel Bottomley), a pessimistic teacher (Sharon Horgan), and his absentee father (Ralph Ineson) are also on hand to dampen Jamie’s spirits.

Under the confident hands of filmmaker Jonathan Butterell, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is an engaging and enlivening musical that should leave a smile on your face. The soundtrack is also amazing, as “Wall in My Head,” “Spotlight,” and “This Was Me” are part of my Spotify playlist:
