Shelton’s directing credits include Humpday, Your Sister’s Sister, Touchy Feely, Laggies, Outside In, and Sword of Trust (which starred her companion Marc Maron). Her acclaimed work on television included directing stints on Mad Men, GLOW, The Mindy Project, and Little Fires Everywhere.

Maron recently rebroadcast his first interview with Shelton, and during that conversation she discussed how working with actors was her favorite aspect of the filmmaking process. Such an observation spoke to her love for people and communication, and that spirit is one reason why her work has been universally loved.

“It has been really meaningful to me to work on this project. Lynn was one of my dearest friends and losing her has been leveling,” said Megan Griffiths, Shelton’s lifelong friend and collaborator, who directed the tribute. “It has given me comfort to focus on celebrating her life by bringing together all of these beautiful performances and hearing the heartfelt words of her many friends and collaborators. I hope it brings solace to her family and all those mourning this unfathomable loss.”

Her Effortless Brilliance: A Celebration of Lynn Shelton Through Film And Music airs tonight (9 pm et/6 pm pt) on YouTube. Donations to the Shelton/Seal Family Fund for the Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children or Seattle’s Northwest Film Forum are encouraged via this celebration and in memory of Lynn Shelton.
