‘Empire of Light’ Hits Blu-ray and Digital in February

Empire of Light, the Olivia Colman headlined feature directred by Sam Mendes (1917), hits Blu-ray and DVD February 21 and Digital February 7. The picture received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography (Roger Deakins). Check out our post for special features details on Empire of Light!

The narrative centers on Hilary, a cinema manager struggling with her mental healthy who bonds with a new employee named Stephen (Micheal Ward). Set in an English coastal town in the early 1980s, the project follows their journey of finding healing via the power of cinema, music, and friendship. Rounding out the ensemble are Colin Firth and Toby Jones.

Director Sam Mendes also penned Empire of Light, and it is his second writing credit (his first being 1917). Other directing credits for Mendes include the James Bond installment Skyfall and Spectre, as well as the critically acclaimed efforts Road to Perdition and American Beauty.

Bonus features include “Creating Empire of Light,” a featurette that explores “the story’s origins and the director’s love of cinema.”
