If you haven’t checked out Vanilla Sky, director Cameron Crowe’s remake of Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), give yourself until June 30th, the Blu-ray release date of Vanilla Sky with Alternate Ending.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Released in 2001, the storyline centers on a publishing tycoon and womanizer named David Aames (Tom Cruise) who believes he’s found his dream woman (Penélope Cruz, who also starred in the original). After a tragic encounter with a bitter ex-lover (Cameron Diaz, in a Golden Globe nominated performance), David’s life is permanently transformed, as he embarks on a surrealistic (and ultimately profound) journey.

Along with both the theatrical cut (136 minutes) and the new alternate ending version (141 minutes), the Blu-ray will also contain deleted, alternate, and extended versions of select scenes.

Special Features:

  1. 13 Deleted, alternate and extended scenes with commentary by director Cameron Crowe.
  2. “Mast Test” Vignette
  3. “Kurt Russell Single Take” Vignette

The disc also comes previously released special features, including commentary (Cameron Crowe, Nancy Wilson, Tom Cruise), photo gallery, an interview with Paul McCartney (he penned and performed the song “Vanilla Sky”), the music video “Afrika Shows” by Leftfield/Afrika Bambaataa, and a Gag Reel.

I’m a huge fan of Vanilla Sky, and considering the film’s ending leaves an indelible impression, it’ll be interesting to see if the alternate version is just as powerful.

Vanilla Sky With Alternate Ending comes out on Blu-ray via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Paramount Pictures on June 30.

Below is one of my favorite sequences from the movie, which features some sage advice from Penélope Cruz’s character (“Every passing minute is a chance to turn it all around”).
