Casey Affleck and Matt Damon are close friends whose work together includes “Gerry,” “Good Will Hunting” and the “Ocean’s Eleven” films. Affleck co-wrote “The Instigators” with Chuck MacLean, and Doug Liman (who worked with Damon in “The Bourne Identity”) directed the feature. Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are a desperate dad and ex-con who are hired to rob a corrupt politician come election night. Their plans go south, and now they try to escape with criminals and police officers hot on their tail. Hong Chau, who previously worked with Damon on “Downsizing,” is Rory’s understandably concerned therapist.

I was a bit hesitant going into “The Instigators,” but those fears were unfounded. “The Instigators” is Grade-A entertainment from the jump, and the chemistry among Damon, Affleck and Chau shine through.

There is a laundry list of talented actors in the ensemble, but per co-host Eric Holmes’ wishes I am going to withhold their names. Discovering the actors during the course of the movie is part of the enjoyment. Jack Harlow co-stars as the third man on the crime job, but that is all I will say.
