Stephanie Gil (Terminator: Dark Fate) stars in Fatima, the story of a 10-year-old girl named Lucia (Gil) who, along with her two younger cousins, claim they have seen the Virgin Mary. During the interview, Gil reflects on the day she landed the lead role in the film and what she learned from her Fatima journey.

With the visitations of the Virgin Mary, Lucia (Stephanie Gil) and her cousins are told that only prayer and suffering can bring a close to World War I. Father Ferreira (Joaquim de Almeida), a government official named Arturo (Goran Visnjic), and even Lucia’s mother Maria (Lúcia Moniz) tell her to recant the story. Lucia remains steadfast on her claim, leading to religious pilgrims for people who are looking for a miracle.

That said, Fatima’s appeal is not solely focused on believers of Our Lady of Fatima. “The biggest message of the movie is having hope and faith in yourself with everyone around you and just being strong in any situation,” said Gil. “I think that’s the most important message that the movie carries.”

Gil landed the role two years ago, and she utilized the words “awesome” and “special” in describing her time shooting Fatima. Her dreams of acting started at an early age.

“When I was little, I remember watching TV shows and watching films and (thinking) ‘How do they do that, is it real?’ I was really intrigued about that subject,” said Gil, who is working on a new Spanish series called Ana Tramel. El Juego. “I started dressing up and acting and being different people. I asked my mom if I could take theater classes first to see if I liked doing that. Then I started doing TV series and now movies. After Fatima, I knew that I wanted to do this as long as I could because I just love acting in general. It’s really fun and it’s a learning experience too. I get to travel and visit places I’ve never been to before. It’s awesome.”

Fatima is now playing in theaters and is available On Demand.
