Written and directed by Jake Goldberger (Life of a King, Don McKay), the narrative centers on Charlie Brenner (Highmore), an aimless twentysomething who’s living at home with his mom and stepdad. Rush is Amber, local coffee shop waitress who is the object of Charlie’s affections. As their bond deepens, complications arise as Amber has a serious boyfriend, while Charlie must decide if he’ll finally take action and break out of his slacker lifestyle.

“I could not be more excited about the cast we’ve been able to put together,” said Goldberger, who is currently shooting the movie in Mobile, Alabama. “Watching it come to life with these incredible actors is nothing less than a dream come true.”

Rush, who won a Teen Choice Award for her breakout role in The Giver, will be seen this fall in Goosebumps. Along with Bates Motel, Highmore is also featured in the mini-series Close to the Enemy. Osment, an Oscar nominee for The Sixth Sense, also starred in IFC’s The Spoils Before Dying and The Spoils of Babylon.

Rounding out the cast for Holding Patterns are Rita Volk (Faking It), Jake Abel (Percy Jackson films) and Taylor John Smith (Insidious: Chapter 3).
