Cooke, whose credits include “Bates Motel” and last year’s overlooked sci-fi drama “The Signal,” plays Rachel, a high school student who has been diagnosed with cancer. Her fellow classmate Greg (Thomas Mann) is forced by his mother (Connie Britton) to befriend her and offer a sliver of solace, much to his initial displeasure. What ensues is a gradual bond that, in its purest essence, transcends time and weather.

I’ll be posting more on Olivia Cooke, Mann, co-star RJ Cyler, and director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, but for now I’ll leave you with some Cooke audio as she talks about her early acting life.

Though her original plans to attend drama school were dashed, Cooke’s road took a decidedly different yet fortunate turn. “This crazy journey happened and I just went with it,” says the actress, who spent 10 years at the Oldham Theatre Workshop. “And I tried to hold on by the skin of my teeth as much as possible. It was never in my wildest dreams that I’d be here.”
