One of the movies Eric Holmes recommends this week on CinemAddicts is Onyx The Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. Director/writer/actor Andrew Bowser talked to Holmes about the challenges of getting the movie off the ground. Bowser also talks about how Onyx has evolved over the years. The movie debuts today for a one night only showing, and for further information you can check out https://www.theonyxmovie.com/.

Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls has the titular character (Andrew Bowser) getting an invite to the mansion of Bartok the Great (Jeffrey Combs). At the domicile, Onyx and Bartok’s delegation summon an ancient demon!

Eric Holmes recommended Onyx The Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, and he found a surprising level of resonance to the story. During the interview, he asked Bowser about initially pouring a lot of “self-loathing” into Onyx and ultimately evolving the character.

“I think for a long time he was a character that I dumped too much on,” said Andrew Bowser. “I used him to take out some anxiety and fear that has been locked up inside of me since I was a child. It could be very cathartic for me, but it also doesn’t do much for moving the character forward.”

“As far as how much of me is in (Onyx), it’s all of it,” added Bowser. “It is my 5th grade self frozen in time.”
