With dramatic work such as Spring Breakers, The Frozen Ground, Gimme Shelter (a personal fav of mine), and a Broadway stint with Gigi, Vanessa Hudgens loves to creatively shake things up. Her latest venture is headlining the NBC comedy Powerless, and in the video below I asked Hudgens about her acting journey.
In Powerless, Hudgens is Emily Locke, the Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security. Alan Tudyk plays her boss in the series, which also features the comedic talents of Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk, and Ron Funches. Setting a comedy within the DC Universe sounds like a great idea, and to Hudgens taking on the project was a completely new and gratifying challenge to face.
“It’s so hard to foresee what I’m going to do because I’m not sure what opportunity will arise. I’m not sure what I will be most scared of. Because I feel like if it scares me a ton, the more reason I should do it. It’s kind of just leaning into that and trying new things.
Comedy is quite new to me and it’s hard. I feel very blessed and fortunate that I have such an amazing cast that are just so good at it (as well as) directors and writers. It’s just a well supported team that I get to be a part of. So I feel very safe and I’m having so much fun but learning a lot at the same time.” – Vanessa Hudgens
