Premiering March 20 on NBC, Crowded centers on once empty nester parents Mike and Martina (Patrick Warburton, Carrie Preston) whose two daughters (Miranda Cosgrove, Mia Serafino) move back home. Coupled with Mike’s parents’ (Stacy Keach, Carlease Burke) decision not to move to Florida, this house, though filled with love, is definitely “crowded.” Miranda Cosgrove and Mia Serafino talked about what makes the show unique.

Serafino, who plays wannabe actress Stella on the show, sees Crowded as an irreverent sitcom that’s blessed with a solid writing team (Suzanne Martin, whose credits include The Client List and Hot in Cleveland,is the show’s creator):

“They try to push the envelope. It’s definitely not cookie-cutter (with) the situations that we are bringing to the family . It’s very progressive.. . . we definitely don’t treat it like a network show.”

Cosgrove plays Shea, a straight-laced intellectual, and she talked about being pleasantly surprised about Crowded’s approach to comedy:

“I was shocked when I saw the script because I didn’t know how it would work on network TV, but the audience was really responsive. They laughed a lot.”

In the video below, the actresses talk about how the Crowded theme of moving back home applies to their own lives:

I was more than pleased with the Crowded pilot, as the writing was spot on and actually pretty edgy (for a network sitcom). The chemistry among the actors is also spot on. I’ll be posting more Crowded video in the coming weeks!!

Are you excited for Crowded or is this a sitcom you’ll be ignoring? Feel free to comment below!
