Ian Ziering’s early success with Beverly Hills 90210 and his run as the action hero behind the Sharknado franchise are just two credits in a career that spans several decades. During last month’s NBC/Universal TCA Summer press tour, I asked Ziering about the origins of his work ethic.

“My work ethic is directly a result of my parents,” said Ziering. “I saw my father go to work every day. He worked three jobs to support the family. When I was a little kid and he’d be missing a baseball game, it was because he was working.”

In the video below, Ziering talked about how, as a father and husband, he has come to appreciate the sacrifices that his dad made. Even if it meant missing Ian’s Little League baseball game, he was obviously there in spirit:

Ziering’s next feature, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, airs July 31 on Syfy. Joining the Sharknado family via cameos are TV host Carrie Keagan, Baywatch vets Gena Lee Nolin and Alexandra Paul, Dog the Bounty Hunter’s Duane Chapman, and rockers Vince Neil (Motley Crue) and Corey Taylor (Slipknot).
