Director/writer Theodore Melfi crafted a first rate tale with his 2014 feature St. Vincent, and now he’s behind the camera with Hidden Figures, the true story of three African-American women (Empire’s Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monáe, Octavia Spencer) who were part of NASA’s operation to send astronaut John Glenn (Glenn Powell) in orbit.

Co-starring Kevin Costner (he previously worked with Spencer in the 2014 feature Black or White), Kirsten Dunst, and Jim Parsons, Co-written by Allison Schroeder and based on a book by Margot Lee Shetterly,  Hidden Figures hits theaters January 13, 2017.

One of the trailer’s highlights is watching nascent actress Janelle Monáe seemingly kill it in her respective role. She seems to be a natural just like Henson and Spencer, and their chemistry should be one of the film’s strongest aspects.
