Currently available on DirecTV and hitting theaters April 3, Cut Bank is a crime thriller centering on Dwayne McLaren (Liam Hemsworth), a frustrated former high school quarterback who dreams of leaving his small Montana town. But as scribe Cornell Woolrich once said, “first you dream, then you die.”

Neither Dwayne’s wide-eyed girlfriend Cassandra (Teresa Palmer) or her straight arrow father (Billy Bob Thornton) can keep him from doing the unthinkable, and eventually his actions leads to tragic consequences. John Malkovich, Bruce Dern, Oliver Platt, and Michael Stuhlbarg round out the sterling ensemble.

The easy comparison would be to lump Cut Bank into Fargo realm, and although both films have rich characterizations and crackerjack dialogue, Cut Bank is thankfully its own creature.

I checked out the film last night and I’ll be posting a review closer to the movie’s release date. Hopefully I’ll grab a few interviews to post on the site as well, and if you actually have DirecTV and love tight-fisted dramas that’s blessed with Western and film noir elements, Cut Bank is worth a look.

Below is a confrontation between Big Stan (Billy Bob Thornton) and Dwayne (Liam Hemsworth), and it’s one of many sequences turns Cut Bankinto a seductive viewing experience.
