Two time Oscar winner Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump) has played his share of iconic and historical figures over the years (most notably Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks), and now he tackles the role of Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. The trailer was released this morning, so check it out below and there’s a couple of big reasons why this movie should be a keeper.

In the past several years Tom Hanks has delivered excellent work in Bridge of Spies, Sully, and The Post, and one expects that streak to continue with A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. The picture is based on the real life friendship between Rogers and journalist Tom Junod (played by The Americans’ Matthew Rhys), who wrote an Esquire profile on Rogers.

Along with the top level casting of Hanks and Rhys, the picture is also blessed with the directing talents of Marielle Heller, a filmmaker whose previous two films (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) were met with critical acclaim.

With the success of the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, there is also a continued desire to see Rogers’ life played out on the big screen, and hopefully A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood effectively captures Mister Rogers’ spirit. My bet is this film will creatively knock it out of the park, but more importantly check out the trailer and tell us what you think!

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood hits theaters November 22.
