Actor Ryan Guzman stars in Heroes Reborn as Carlos Gutierrez, an Army veteran who is suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome after serving in Afghanistan. To research his part, Guzman called upon a close relative for some valuable assistance.
Guzman, who was seen earlier this year opposite Jennifer Lopez in The Boy Next Door, describes Carlos as an insular, self-deprecating person who, despite the chaos around him, is way too closed off for his own good. Considering Carlos’ own heartbreaking and what one would assume heroic past, that’s understandable. During the interviews for Heroes Reborn, Guzman talked about the responsibility behind playing a military veteran.
“Any time you’re doing something where you’re kind of trying to embody a whole demographic that is giving their lives for everyone else (there is) extreme responsibility. I have the pleasure of having a cousin in the Armed services who is in Afghanistan right now, and prior to coming to Toronto to film, me and him had a beautiful couple of days together where he shared with me just so much – I do miss him.”
In the video below (which features co-star Robbie Kay), Guzman talks about Carlos Gutierrez’s initial journey in Heroes Reborn:
Heroes Reborn, co-starring Zachary Levi and Judith Shekoni, premires September 24 on NBC.
