With the series finale of Timeless upon us, I wanted to share an audio clip of Matt Lanter discussing his thoughts on what makes a great script, especially since the show’s bread and butter centered on its writing. Check out the Lanter audio below, as he talks about how being a first time dad has also deepened his acting chops.

The interview with Matt Lanter took place earlier this May, and during the chat he talked about the open collaboration he had with the Timeless writers in developing his character and organically fitting them into the show’s immersive storylines. Lanter has an analytical approach to scripts, and he’s not a “just say your lines” type of actor.
“I think (with) any good script, every single word and every single line is there for a reason,” said Lanter. “And I think that’s how you can decipher good scripts and bad scripts. When you look at a line and go ‘I don’t know, what does that even mean, why would he say that line’ . . . because when you have a great script, every line and every word means something and often there’s three thoughts behind every line.”
To hear the full version of Lanter’s answer, in which he also talks about his growth as an actor (thanks to such life changing events as fatherhood) check out the audio below:
Timeless’ two hour series finale airs Thursday, December 20 (NBC, 8 pm et/pt).
