If you’re looking for a solid action film with creature feature elements, “Elevation” is worth a look. This post-apocalyptic tale, set in the Rocky Mountains, centers on a single dad (Anthony Mackie) and two women (Maddie Hasson, Morena Baccarin) who leave their environment to save a young boy’s life. Hasson talked to Deepest Dream about the project, and towards the end of the chat she recommended two of her previous projects “Impulse” and “We Summon The Darkness.”
In “Elevation,” humans have to stay above 8,000 feet or else they will be attacked by these seemingly indestructible creatures. Will (Anthony Mackie) must venture into town to get medication for his son Hunter (Danny Boyd Jr.). Accompanying him is a bitter, introverted scientist named Nina (Morena Baccarin) and Will’s close friend Katie (Maddie Hasson).
Director George Nolfi, who previously worked with Mackie in “The Adjustment Bureau” and “The Banker,” is “Elevation’s” director. The narrative has several standout action sequences, and I asked Hasson about a sequence where the three characters are elevated and must use a cable car to escape one of the creatures.
The Hasson interview is only three minutes, and unfortunately my questions were a bit clipped due to my horrible wi-fi. Bottom line is “Elevation” is a really well done film, and I’m giving the movie a high recommendation on this week’s CinemAddicts podcast. For more information, check out my interview with Hasson!
Catch “Elevation” in theaters November 8.
