One of this season’s most memorable performances on The Voice came from Shelby Brown delivered a jaw-dropping rendition of the Grace Potter & The Nocturnals tune “Stars.” The four chair turn gave Brown a lot to think about, and instead of going the predictable route with Blake Shelton, the Elberta, Alabama native went with Adam Levine.

Levine paired Brown with rocker Amanda Ayala during the Battle Rounds as they rocked it out with Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen.” Brown advanced in the competition, and now we’ll see if she makes it past the Knockouts.

Just 17, Brown has incredible power in her voice but as Gwen Stefani accurately assessed, there’s also a ton of “texture” behind her singing, and hopefully that diversity is displayed for her Knockouts performance.

“I hope people can see my growth, not just vocally but confidence wise,” said Brown. “I’m still terrified and nervous – but not as bad (laughs).”

Our interview with Shelby Brown is below, and some of the topics that we discussed include her Knockouts performance, choosing Adam Levine over Blake Shelton as her coach, and the genre of music she plans to record and perform down the road:

The Voice Knockouts continue Monday (8 pm et/pt) and Tuesday (9 pm et/pt) on NBC.
