Bernadette (Cate Blanchett) was a visionary architect who put her career on the backburner to raise a family in Seattle (Billy Crudup is her Microsoft innovator hubby and Emma Nelson is her daughter).

For 15 years, Bernadette has relied on her daughter Bee as her sole friend, and in fact Bernadette has a more personal relationship with her virtual assistant than her own husband. With Bee ready to go to boarding school, the anti-social Bernadette goes on an epic adventure that absolutely confounds her family.

“It’s a very and painful look at a woman who is in a moment of chaos and approaching enormous change in her life,” said Blanchett. “All of the garbage and rubbish that comes up from who you thought you’d be, having to face who you are, to move on to who you might possibly become. We find Bernadette and her family at that moment of crisis.”

Where’d You Go Bernadette opens in theaters August 16.
