Mandy Moore’s upcoming album Silver Landings comes out in early March, and in the video below I asked her about collaborating with husband Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes) on the project. It was a fair question, but if I actually did my job and listened to “I’d Rather Lose” and “When I Wasn’t Watching” before the interview,  I would have definitely asked more pointed questions about Silver Landings!

It’s been over a decade since Mandy Moore’s last album (Amanda Leigh), and to be honest I’m all about the Fleetwood Mac-ish vibe behind “I’d Rather Lose” and “When I Wasn’t Watching.” Bubble gum pop, chart-toppers (I still love “Extraordinary”),  covering tracks of yesteryear, and expanding her own music horizons have all been a part of Moore’s journey, and with an even bigger fan base thanks to This Is Us, it will be interesting to see how Silver Landings actually (pardon the pun) lands.

“I got to make the record with my husband and with one of my very closest friends (Mike Viola) and wrote all the songs and had an incredible band,” said Moore. “We recorded live to tape in the studio. It was just a very different process of making and recording a record for me. I’m very excited to take it on the road and share it with the world.”

Since the Dawes track “We’re All Gonna Die” is one of my all time favorite tunes, I had to ask Moore about collaborating with Taylor Goldsmith.

“I think the world of Taylor obviously as a partner but also just as a songwriter and guitar player and a musician. So to be able to collaborate with him – it was honestly so easy. He’s so comfortable in his skin as a performer and as a writer and to be able to truly feel like my partner was supporting me and had my back and we were able to sort of do this endeavor to do something like this together has been the greatest thing.”
