Shot in the Arm, directed by Scott Hamilton Kennedy and executive produced by Neil deGrasse Tyson, is a critically acclaimed documentary that spotlights the “vaccine hesitancy and in the context of our modern pandemic.” Can we overcome our own confirmation bias and strengthen our own education and personal insights? Kennedy and Tyson talked about their documentary, which is now playing at New York City’s Angelika Film Center.

Scott Hamilton Kennedy previously collaborated with Neil deGrasse Tyson on Food Evolution, and their partnership resumes with Shot in the Arm.

“We established a collaboration (with Food Evolution) and a friendship and i’m very glad he’s a mentor to me as well,” said Kennedy. “While I was making (Shot in the Arm) I sent him a rough cut and asked him to tell me how brilliant I was (Tyson laughs). He made sure I tightened up the film and made it better.”

“What I bring to the table, not as an astrophysicst, because i’m not a medical professional,’ said Tyson. “But I bring to the table experience in thinking about how to communicate ideas, facts, information, understandings of a scientific result.”

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, Dr. Pete J. Hotez, along with anti-vaccine activists Robert Kennedy Jr. and Andrew Wakefield are among the Shot in the Arm interviewees.
