As Josh Henderson says below, it was a “leap of faith” which led him to choose the entertainment industry over baseball:

Oddly at an early age you can go back and look at my family photo albums. I had this weird thing I would do. I’d stick my tongue out at the age of 1 or 2 sometimes when she’d point a camera at me. She always labeled that as Josh’s TV phase. Once I got kind of into reality at 8, 9, 10 years old and I fell in love with sports. I truly believed I would play baseball for a living and I started working towards that really hard all the way through high school and got a scholarship to play in college.

But at 18 I had to make a choice because somehow fate stepped in and I randomly hopped in line for this show called Popstars which was a show about the making of a group. Kind of like American Idol but it was the making of a pop group. I won and I had never sang in front of anyone. I had danced as a little kid – I was a break dancer but somehow I won the show and I had to decide do I go to college and play baseball which I know, or do I hop into this scary situation and move to LA and live in a house where they are going to film me for a year and record a record and go on tour? Do I do that. Do I really do that?

I had to make that leap of faith and here I am 15 years later and I have a career that I love and I never knew it was a possibility to make it into the entertainment industry but somehow I’ve been very fortunate to have a great career so far.
