Filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón’s “Disclaimer” is a seven part series toplined by Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. Based on Renée Knight’s bestselling novel, the tale centers on Catherine Ravenscoft (Blanchett), a journalist whose life takes a turn for the worse due to possible karmic retribution. Check out CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey’s review of the series (he gives his thoughts on episodes 1-5).
With a top notch ensemble including Sacha Baron Cohen (“The Brothers Grimsby”), Lesley Manville (“Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris”), Leila George (“Animal Kingdom”), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”), “Disclaimer” does not lack the talent. Cuarón’s film credits include “Children of Men,” “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” and “Gravity.”
For the visuals, Cuaron reunited with “Gravity” cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. All that said, “Disclaimer’s” Rotten Tomatoes Score (77% critics, 57% audience) is underwhelming.
