In today’s climate of political and social division, the freshman series The Village focuses on the priceless value of human connection. The Village centers on the residents of a Brooklyn apartment building who have become a close unit. Warren Christie plays Nick Porter, a military vet who has returned from a tour in Afghanistan. Since Nick is the newest neighbor in the complex, he serves as the proverbial eyes and ears of the viewer.

“We all knew this was special,” said Christie. “There was just something about it. It was beautiful. It wasn’t forced.”

Check out Christie’s full answer below as he discussed what makes The Village a special show (co-star Michaela McManus is also in the video).

The Village premieres tonight on NBC (10 pm et/pt).
