Team Blake

Knockout Round 1: Bindi Liebowitz vs. Courtney Harrell

Courtney Harrell is the first to arrive at rehearsal, and she’s wowed by seeing Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Courtney chooses Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High,” a song that allows her to blend soul and rock into one performance. Faith is blown away, and makes a few vocal suggestions in certain spots. For her performance, Courtney really gets to belting and showing the power in her voice.

Bindi Liebowitz was Blake’s steal last week, and she also goes soulful with Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man.” Tim and Blake tell Bindi she needs to start the song like it’s the middle of her show and not the first song, letting it build a bit. Faith says the song needs more variation, being Rocky Road rather than vanilla. As for Bindi, while she’s got the swagger of the song and a killer stage presence, the song has a few shaky moments and fewer dynamic moments.

Alicia says it’s the first time she really got to hear Bindi open up and Courtney was like Superwoman. Miley loved Bindi’s textures, and Courtney is now on her radar. Adam saw Bindi’s struggles with confidence, and he feels that Courtney has turned into a soul queen superstar. Blake says Bindi her personality and talent draws people in, while Courtney unleashed a volcano. He ends up choosing Courtney Harrell.

Team Adam

Knockout Round 2: Billy Gilman vs. Ponciano Seoane

Billy Gilman is the first to be greeted by familiar faces Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. He chooses Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” and Tim says his version sounds like it’s his song. Tim and Faith discuss the importance of feeling and being in the song rather than relying on his talent alone. During his performance, Billy’s voice floats over the opening, getting more powerful as it builds toward the chorus. And the arrangement, which at times almost feels more gospel with the backing singers, is a big selling point as well.

Ponciano Seaone goes with Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire,” claiming that he’s one of his favorite artists. Faith says that during the rehearsal, he came alive midway into the song and needs to make sure he delivers all the way through. Adam wants strong energy from the start. The performance starts off with some nice intimate moments, but builds as it goes with Ponciano getting a chance to show more range.

Blake says Ponciano did a great job and felt like it could have been his own song, but he felt Billy’s performance. Alicia says Ponciano’s performance was very organic, while Billy started tentative and pounced as the song continued. Miley thinks Billy’s voice is amazing, and loved Ponciano’s performance as well. Adam says this was by far the best he’s heard from Ponciano and he killed. He also says that Billy has a really special gift. The winner of the knockout is Billy.

Team Alicia

Knockout Round 3: Christian Cuevas vs. Belle Jewel

Belle Jewel, who was montaged in the first two rounds, finally gets a chance to show what she can do. She has a knack for reinventing familiar songs, and for tonight’s performances she adds a new spin on Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” Tim loves her delivery, and Alicia loves her ad-libs. Belle goes first and there’s no denying the lilting, jazzy, gorgeous rendition that she delivered.

Christian Cuevas shares a hilarious story of having Tim McGraw’s cologne, breaking the ice a bit. He decides to sing “Superstar,” as performed by Luther Vandross. Tim loved the velvety tone of his voice. Faith notices a few nervous stage moves with the mic, and they work with Christian to get him away from thinking and more into singing. Christian really nails some of the drawn out notes and the rendition really draws in the listener.

Miley says she’s not sure what she would do, as both were great. She loved Belle’s confidence in herself, while Christian drew her in. Adam is obsessed with Christian’s voice, and Belle made a fan out of him. Blake says he’s mad at Alicia for putting the two vocalists together, and as much as he absolutely loves Belle, he would go with Christian. Alicia loves Belle’s voice and her style and she loved how Christian worked for the song. She picks Christian, while Miley swoops in for the steal of Belle. That leaves Alicia with the only steal left in this round.
