The first two nights of the new season of The Voice have been completed and the teams are filling up. But in most cases, we’re not even halfway there to completing the final rosters. So without further adieu, let’s take a look at the talent from Night 3 of the Blind Auditions.
The night starts with 24-year-old Hannah Huston, a pre-school teacher from Lincoln, Nebraska. She was bit by the music bug after singing at a friend’s wedding proposal and from there she started gigging at coffee shops. Hannah takes on Allen Stone’s “Unaware,” showing her soulful side and providing some range. Blake seems to be championing her, but nobody turns until Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams push simultaneously as Hannah belts a powerful raspy note to conclude the track. Christina says she’s a fan. Pharrell loves her voice and is excited by her personality. And Blake offers praise as well. In the end, she picks Pharrell.

Next up is Brian Nhira from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He grew up with parents who take part in ministries and loves to sing for people. After high school, he became a worship leader at Oral Roberts University. He considers himself a pop singer and decides to take on Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” Nearly the entire song passes as all the coaches look at Pharrell with smiles. Eventually Pharrell pushes in, but so does Blake. Shelton immediately tells Brian, “I have so much respect for you that I did something so humiliating as to hit my button when you’re singing his freaking song. That’s how much respect I have for you. I don’t have a shot.” But when Brian reveals he’s from Oklahoma, maybe there’s a chance. Pharrell admits that Brian did some runs that he knows he couldn’t do. When Brian says his first song he ever sung was “Jesus Loves Me,” Pharrell has him sing it and its possibly even better than his rendition of “Happy.” He chooses Pharrell.
26-year-old Canadian Brittany Kennell says she was fascinated with music from the first time hearing Shania Twain. She studied at Berklee College of Music and now lives in Nashville. She views herself as a singer-songwriter. She’s looking to get to the next level and feels that the coaches could really help. She picks Sheryl Crow’s “Strong Enough” and shows she has a different tone to her voice. Blake likes what he hears and presses in. At the last second, Pharrell gets in as well. Blake loves her unique sound and praises her. Pharrell loves her tone. Blake seals the deal when he has the audience hold up signs telling her to pick Blake … and she does.
Natalie Yacovazzi failed to get a chair turn in Season 9 and left The Voice audition stage devastated. She returned to her job as a credit card processor, but decided to give it another try. Her daughter wants Blake, but she’s leaning toward Adam Levine if the opportunity arises. Natalie performs Kelly Clarkson’s “Mr. Know It All.” Right from the start, it’s pure power and she gets a quick turn from Adam. Christina also pushes, but it was too late. Adam remembers her and says the beginning of the song was “crazy.” He’s happy she came back and feels that she’ll get over any nerves that she had.
19-year-old Malik Heard comes from a sports family, but decided in his sophomore year to pursue music. He sang in church and youth groups and has a love for pop and R&B music. He put a scholarship on hold to pursue music and he takes on Nick Jonas’ “Chains” because it holds a personal meaning to him. Simply put, it’s smooth and it doesn’t take long for Christina and Pharrell to simultaneously press in. He only gets stronger as the track reaches the chorus. Pharrell drops the fact that he’s worked with Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, but then again, so did Christina. It’s a rather fun exchange between the two, but he eventually chooses Christina.
Peyton Parker hails from Georgia and was aiming for a career in cheerleading until she tore ligaments in her leg. Not knowing what to do next, she picked up a guitar and music soon became her focus. She convinced her parents to move to Nashville to give her a better shot at realizing her dreams. She’s worked as a street performer, but cautions that even though she’s in Nashville, she’s not a typical country singer. For her audition, she takes on the Fleetwood Mac classic “Dreams.” Christina and Pharrell get in after the first line, with Blake follow soon after. As she continues, Blake sings along with her. Pharrell asks her about her likes. Christina says there is nobody like her on her team and she makes a good sell. Blake then gives the exact spiel that Christina warned her about. She tries to sell it pulling out a cowboy hat as well. But Peyton decides to go with Blake.
Blake gets a little more love in the “montage” segment, as we get brief glimpses of Gina Castanzo singing Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness’ “Cecilia and the Satellite” and pop rocker Trey O’Dell taking on Sheppard’s “Geronimo” before eventually landing on Team Blake.
Kristen Marie is a college student from Oklahoma City focusing on theater performance and pre-law. She’s pursued indie jazz, which is probably as far away from Blake Shelton as you can get. She’s hoping to turn a chair and show her family that her dream is valid. Kristen chooses the Tears for Fears favorite “Mad World” and from the moment she opens her mouth you hear a unique tone. She hits some notes that show range and one of those notes gets a Christina turn. Blake also gets in late as well. Blake starts to gloat when she says she’s from Oklahoma. Christina says she would be honored to have her on her team and would love to help her rise above. Blake says she’s not like anybody else on the show. But Christina had the better pitch and she chooses Christina.
19-year-old New Jersey native Nate Butler auditioned for the Philadelphia Boys Choir at age 10 and performed in plays throughout high school. He’s now pursuing music and decides to take on Mayer Hawthorne’s “The Walk” as he feels it shows his soulful side. He admits that people are often surprised that the voice doesn’t match the look. During his performance, Nate has a killer falsetto and shows plenty of range, but it’s nearly the last second before Adam, Pharrell and Blake all push in. Adding to his theory that he doesn’t look like he sounds, when Christina’s chair turns after the song, she gives a “What?” look and says she thought that two people were singing. Pharrell says he already has a good grasp of who he is as an artist and loved it. Adam says he has a great falsetto and great voice, but some of the transitions needed help. Blake says listening to him was so much fun, and he too sees the potential. He eventually goes with Adam.
Ryan Quinn gets the last performance of the night. The 25-year-old from Westmoreland, N.Y. comes from a musical family. He started his first band at 15 and teaches music to kids who have suffered trauma. Feeling its now or never, Ryan takes his shot at The Voice and decides to take on the Blind Faith favorite “Can’t Find My Way Home.” His higher register gets an immediate turn from Christina. Adam can’t figure out if it’s one person or two, but eventually Adam and Pharrell turn. With a powerful finale, Blake gets in making it a four-chair turn. Adam says he was impressed by his high voice and really wants to get him on his team. Christina says his voice needs to be heard worldwide. Blake says he feels he can be a great coach and wants to help him be the best he can be. Pharrell says there’s nothing that will go wrong for him and wants to work with him. It’s a tough decision but Ryan goes with Adam.
At the end of the night, the teams look like this. Adam’s three additions bring him up to eight of the 12 spots full. Blake adds four to his team, bring his total to eight spots filled. Christina’s two performers bring her total to seven. And Pharrell adds two, bringing his tally to eight of 12 spots covered. So how did tonight’s artists do? See our rankings below.
