Two episodes in and I’m already hooked on Midnight, Texas thanks to its talented ensemble and the writers’ ability to juggle several narratives within an episode. Last week I posted a video on Parisa Fitz-Henley’s thoughts on Wicca (she plays the nurturing witch Fiji on the show), and this week I have video of Francois Arnaud praising co-star Sarah Ramos.

Midnight, Texas centers on Manfred (Arnaud), a powerful yet insecure psychic who is looking to escape a very bad problem by moving into a seemingly harmless small town. Manfred’s dead grandmother told him that Midnight is a place where he could find refuge, and he dutifully followed her advice. The town, however, features several residents with supernatural abilities. Whether it’s housing a reverend (Yul Vázquez) who turns into a tiger, a principled but understandably hungry vampire (Peter Mensah)  or a responsible guy (Jason Lewis) who’s blessed with the gift of flight (he’s an angel), the town is teeming with diversity.

“I think Manfred has a very limited understanding of his psychic abilities,” said Arnaud. “I think he control his powers very well (and they’ve) taken a toll on his sanity. He’s not going to Midnight to find a family (or) community. He just wants to check out which isn’t what happens.”

Sarah Ramos co-stars as Creek, a young woman who works at her father’s gas station and immediately falls head over heels for Manfred (the feeling is mutual for the protagonist). Under lesser creative hands, Creek would be portrayed as a wide-eyed All-American girl who falls for Arnaud’s charms (his devil may care attitude is actually attractive). Thankfully there’s much more than meets the eye with Creek (and I’m assuming there will be more mysteries about Creek and her family during the rest of the season). Check out the video below as Arnaud talks about what makes the talented Ramos the perfect choice for Creek:

Midnight, Texas airs Monday nights on NBC. (10/9c).
