In the video below, Marlon Wayans describes Essence Atkins as the heart of the show. “She knows how to jump in the jump rope,’ said Wayans. “I read a book (called) Good to Great which said put great people on the bus. I’ve got a great person on the bus and I feel like (with) my co-pilot on this plane – I can go anywhere and she’s going to fly with me.”
“Our friendship has deepened, our trust has deepened,” said Atkins, who worked with Wayans on the Haunted House films. “I already knew we worked well together but telling this story, especially because it mirrors our own lives . . . he’s been there every step of the way as a co-worker, as a boss and has been nothing but loving and supporting.”
Marlon, co-starring Bresha Webb and Diallo Riddle, premieres tonight on NBC (9/8c).
