Juan Pablo Di Pace admits that playing Jesus Christ in A.D. The Bible Continues is his most challenging role to date. Although he’s had a co-starring role on Mama Mia! and the TV series Dallasplaying such an iconic and beloved figure in a highly anticipated Biblical epic is an entirely different ballgame.

“The way to get into it is literally diving headfirst,” said the actor, who added that he didn’t watch past portrayals of Jesus Christ in preparation for the role. “Reading as much as I could – all the Gospels. Even alternative material about his personality – how he might have been.”

To check out Pablo Di Pace elaborate on playing Jesus Christ, check out the video below (co-star Chipo Chung, who plays Mary Magdalene, is also featured).

In Scriptures, Mary Magdalene was known for her deep bond with Jesus Christ. Chung and Di Pace’s own friendship was strengthened during their chance meeting in the middle of the Moroccan desert (specifically in a village named Merzouga).

“It was wonderful when we first went out for a walk,” said Chung. “The stars in Morocco and the sand dunes are just something else. It was dusk – we both went for walks alone and found each other in this hazy cloud. That was a really deeply special experience because obviously this friendship was extremely important.”

In the video below, Chipo Chung and Juan Pablo Di Pace talk about the eye catching production design for “A.D. The Bible Continues.”
