Before she was an Oscar (“Dreamgirls”) and Grammy winning (for her self-titled debut album and “The Color Purple”), Jennifer Hudson was a contestant on “American Idol.” Seeing that type of competition from both sides should put her in good stead as a new coach for Season 13 of “The Voice.”
Hudson is no stranger to NBC thanks to her work on Hairspray Live!, and she’s also developed her coaching chops with her recent run on The Voice UK.
“That’s the importance of a coach,” said Hudson, who added that she wants to see all of the members of Team JHud blossom. “Especially for me, I know what this means to them. I know how important it is to them and I feel like because of my experience I can help coach them to that. And so with that, it’s extra special to me because I know exactly how they feel and how life changing this can be.”
