Deanna Johnson didn’t get a chair turn during season five of The Voice, and though she was initially discouraged, the Hazlehurst, Georgia native came back in full force this season. With her Blind Auditions performance of Kodaline’s “All I Want,” Johnson received an impressive four chair turn.

Appreciating constructive criticism as a way of honing her craft, Johnson chose Adam Levine, and after beating out good friend Nicolette Mare during the Battle Rounds performance of “Love Me Like You Do,” the singer will next duke it out in the Knockouts.
“It is a good life lesson,” says Johnson about gutting it out and returning to The Voice. “If you never try, you never know. I’m so glad I did it.”
During the interview Johnson talked about The Voice family, her Battle Rounds performance with Mare, and learning from such music luminaries as Adam Levine and key advisor Nate Ruess.
