Widows, directed by Steve McQueen and headlined by Viola Davis, is Anderson Cowan’s most anticipated film of this year, so obviously that’s ther lead of our title. But wait, there’s more! I absolutely loved The Clovehitch Killer and this episode features a bit of insight into Anderson’s screenwriting process and his love for the David Lynch flick Wild at Heart!!

The #1 film I’m looking forward to this year is If Beale Street Could Talk (opening November 30 in NY and December 7 in Los Angeles), as Oscar winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins is a voice I’ve yet to fully appreciate. Anderson and I discuss our initial thoughts on Moonlight and admit that the hype around the flick may have downgraded our overall assessment of the feature. I’ll be catching Moonlight once again this month before diving into If Beale Street Could Talk, as I feel like I completely under praised the feature.

Speaking of praise, I’ve got heaps of it for The Clovehitch Killer, a first rate (and downright scary) thriller starring Charlie Plummer, Dylan McDermott, Samantha Mathis, and Madisen Beaty. The story centers on a soft spoken teenager named Tyler (Plummer) who, though raised in a seemingly close knight, religious family, suspects his dad (McDermott) is the serial killer who terrorized his sleepy suburban town over a decade ago. Mathis co-stars as the Tyler mom, with Beaty playing a mysterious girl who helps his figure out if dear old dad is the titular character. Like Widows, the flick opens November 16.

Aside from movies covered in October and November, Anderson also talks about why Wild at Heart is one of his all time favorite features. Props to Shout! Factory for giving me the Blu-ray for year end coverage, and giving Anderson the Blu-ray and talking about the film towards the end of the program was my way of plugging the product and having Cowan shed some insight on the flick! Wild at Heart is now out on Blu-ray, and you can get it here.

I am also in the beginning stages of writing my first ever screenplay (at the ripe old age of 47!!), so I also asked Anderson about his writing process. Not only is he one of my best friends, but Anderson is also a font of cinematic knowledge with a can-do work ethic. Anyways, take a listen to our latest episode below, and to support our program feel free to subscribe to us on iTunes! Have a great weekend!
