Netflix’s highly anticipated tick, tick…Boom! is just around the corner, and today we were treated to seeing Andrew Garfield sing an entirely new tune with the help of filmmaker Lin-Manuel Miranda. Can the Hamilton creator and Garfield capture the spirit of Jonathan Larson’s (Rent) autobiographical musical? Check out the new trailer!

The narrative centers on Jon (Andrew Garfield), a struggling theater composer who waits tables at a New York city diner in 1990. During his off hours he is penning an ambitious musical that he hopes will make a difference. With the support of his girlfriend Susan (Alexandra Shipp) and best friend Michael (Robin de Jesús), Larson is trying his best to keep that artistic hunger alive.

Tony Award winner Judith Light, Vanessa Hudgens, The Roots member Black Thought, and Bradley Whitford co-star in the feature, which is penned by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson.

The trailer prominently employs the musical’s tune “Louder Than Words,” and it shows that Garfield knows how to carry a tune. His performance of 30/90 with Joshua Henry and Hudgens is also worth a listen:
